Sculpting From Life

Years ago my husband and I took a week long trip to upstate New York so I could take a class with renowned sculptor Philippe Faraut. It was such a wonderful week. We stayed at a bed and breakfast and each day I got to go off to sculpt!

A young girl named Orion came along with her grandmother and she became our model. Pure enjoyment! These two pictures show my work from that week.

This bust is terra cotta and it is not glazed. I spray painter her gold and then used brown shoe polish to finish her off. (I think I got a pretty good likeness.) Philippe would come around and do some measuring and he would say, “Dead on!”

I will always love sculpting from life. When I took life sculpting I also learned the art of bronze. But I decided that if I could stay home and sculpt and get to use fabric and textiles that would be better for my lifestyle.
